A few weeks ago one of my loan officers told me I should write an article and post a video explaining why I decided to start Heritage Reverse Mortgage and why I decided to focus solely on Reverse Mortgages when I’d had such great success with what I was doing.
First: What led me to start my own company?
I’ve had several people and subordinates tell me for years that I should start my own company. My response was always, I will NEVER own a mortgage company because I don’t want to deal with all of the Government Regulations and headaches. So what changed my mind? Around March of 2016, I was out for a morning run when a little voice in my head very directly said, “It’s time for you to start a Mortgage Company.” My response was a definitive “Not a chance”. I turned up my music and ran on. But about a week later while on another run the scenario repeated itself and again I heard the voice say, “It’s time for you to start a Mortgage Company.” Fortunately, I’m a quick learner and this time my response was, “Ok, I’ll look into it.”
The last nine months have been a complete whirlwind where one thing after another has fallen into place as if it was supposed to happen. Of course, there have been times I’ve been completely terrified and sleepless because of what I was doing and the risk involved with it but I’ve never been happier as a professional.
Today happens to be my 34th Birthday. While driving to work I thought, I should take the afternoon off and go to a matinee (one of my favorite treats). But almost immediately I countered with, “No thanks, I’d rather go to work.” I absolutely love what I do and though I hold myself to a 40-hour workweek to protect my family time I look forward to every one of those 40 hours.
Second: Why did I choose to Specialize in Reverse Mortgages
When I first started doing mortgages ten years ago I found a love of working with first-time buyers. Even though I usually made less working with these people I found a great sense of satisfaction because for them buying a home was new and exciting. I felt like I was making a real difference to help them better their lives. Reverse Mortgages are a lot like that. More than any other mortgage I’ve found a Reverse Mortgage for the right family is an absolute life-changing event. A Reverse Mortgage has the ability to create freedom and peace of mind that no other mortgage out there can compare with. I know that when I’m working with the right client I’m contributing in a major way to improve their lives and help them live better.
Third: Why do we exist?
My team and I just finished a book titled “Start with Why”. The book explains why it is vital that business leaders and really everyone should clarify the why behind what they do and that by doing so they will find greater success and satisfaction.
After reading this book I set out to define my WHY behind starting Heritage Reverse Mortgage and this is what I came up with. My WHY is, “To make life better for everyone I touch!” That means everyone within my contact should be made better because of their relationship and interaction with me. My employees grow as individuals and professionals, my clients are bettered in their finances and freedom, and our community is better because of the work and service we regularly perform. If I had to guess this WHY statement is what has caused me so much joy and satisfaction in starting Heritage Reverse Mortgage and being a Reverse Mortgage Specialist in Southern Utah.
